The name Ritemis is formed by changing the syllables that make up the word Misteri (Mystery, in Catalan). It is a short piece that evokes an esoteric, mysterious atmosphere, as if shrouded in mist. Later in the piece, allusion is made to a popular Catalan melody played by the violin in the high register and in harmonics. This melody (Les noies maques al dematí) is intended to be a strange, mysterious, almost morbid apparition.
