Book in Catalan - Ir a la versión en castellano

Playing more than 80 keys with 10 fingers is not easy. Without regular practice of scales and arpeggios it is very difficult to move around the keyboard with a certain lightness and precision.

Scales and arpeggios are often the Cinderella of the repertoire of young piano students. This method aims to contribute to introducing the practice in a comprehensive way and adapted to the age at which children begin to study the instrument. The pedagogical need to fill the existing gap with regard to a Catalan publication, based on the practice of scales and arpeggios at an elementary level, has led us to produce this material.

The structure of this first book is based on the progressive presentation of three major keys, appropriate for the beginning of the practice of the instrument.

In the introduction there is a short story addressed to the children, in order to put them in the right context.

Before delving into the scale or arpeggio itself, there is a short section explaining the different more theoretical aspects, with special mention of the thumb passage.

You can find songs in each key (most of which are popular) and a couple of etudes. You will see that all the pieces have different degrees of difficulty, so that they can be adapted according to the teacher's criteria. You will also notice that no fingering suggestions appear in the songs and etudes. We believe that it can be enriching to finger together with the student, in order to reinforce the learning of aspects such as position, thumb pitch, etc. At the end of each key, you will find an "escapegio", which is meant to be a small combined scale and arpeggio.

We hope that this material will be useful to you and will help young pianists to improve their learning.
