"The Divertimento for woodwind quartet is one of the first works that Carlota Garriga composed without piano, the only one so far made for this chamber ensemble. Its three movements are based on the same melodic cell, which she presents in the form of Arioso, Mossom and Scherzando. Without departing too far from this thematic synthesis, it achieves a skilful contrapuntal combination that never fails to be of interest, a consequence of its graceful harmonic restlessness. It is one of the most agile scores Carlota Garriga has ever made for a chamber ensemble. DIVERTIMENTO for four woodwind instruments premiered in Barcelona, 1962".

Xavier Montsalvatge

"The premiere of a Divertimento for quartet of instruments by Carlota Garriga was received with much sympathy. It is pleasant and valuable that this young composer has been able to reject the easy formulas of structure, managing to construct a score that is not at all vulgar, with great sharpness and sense of form, with grace, imagination and ease".

Xavier Montsalvatge,
La Vanguardia, 12/05/1965

The Divertimento, for wind quartet - flute, clarinet, oboe and bassoon - is the first work in which the composer dispenses with the piano. The cyclical character of the score is given by the use of the same melodic cell elaborated according to the spirit of each movement ("Arioso", "Mosso" and "Scherzando"), resulting in an agile and charming score. Written in 1960, its premiere took place in Barcelona in 1962.
