Born in 1948 in Barcelona, Xavier Boliart studied in the Barcelona Conservatory of Music where he earned degrees in Piano, Solfege, Composition and Orchestral Conducting. Later he studied with internationally renowned composers.
Actively involved in teaching, he has published a method for basic techniques of musical language and is frequently invited to give courses and lectures related to learning musical language and musical creativity. He was a Professor at the Barcelona Conservatory of Music since 1975.
As a composer he has received numerous prizes, among themr: ‘Premi Ciutat de Barcelona 1975’, ‘Premi Internacional Pau Casals 1976’, ‘Premi Extraordinari Fundació Francesc Basil 1981’, ‘Premi Ferran Sors de la Generalitat de Catalunya i Diputació de Barcelona 1985’ and ‘Premi S.G.A.E. 1986 and 1987’. He composed works for varied types of expression and his works in an independent aesthetic style are performed internationally.
Boliart has devoted special attention to music for cobla and has composed this Concerto for Tenora and Orchestra, unique in musical history, which was premiered December 3, 1999, by the OBC in Barcelona on the 150th anniversary of this instrument.
