Cantata alada is a symphonic poem for orchestra, mixed choir, children's choir and narration that the composer Mariona Vila has created from the text that the poet Vinyet Panyella has written commissioned by Camerata Sant Cugat.

Initially titled Cantata del ángel, the motivation of the poem is framed in the expressive need of an existential sense of Christian inspiration and a will of faith in the transcendence to which human life aspires.

The poem is configured as a triptych that corresponds to three moments in the life of beings: birth, maturity and death. The traffic along this path is contemplated from the double perspective of the poetic voice addressed to the living being and the figure of the angel, always present, always distant, who becomes a witness of the course of his life.

The birth, the succession of time and the passage towards eternity are inspired by three moments in the life of Christ in which the presence of the angel underlines the meaning of the jewel, of the disquiet and of death with the representation of the birth, of the public life narrated by the Gospels and of his transfer and resurrection. Initially the poem had been conceived as a carol. Its writing, however, took place in the course of some difficult months in which the evolution of the life cycle of some loved ones closed the circle irreversibly; this fact outweighed the commissioning of the carol and shaped the final version of the Cantata. The jewel of a birth, the vital circumstances that run through a life, and the hope and consolation of the survival in the memory build the journey that from the beginning heads towards "the closed circle and the song of the universe". Ultimately, human life and loved ones leave their mark on the immutable landscapes of the earth, the sea and the firmament guarded by the omnipresence of the angel who, finally, is the form taken by the mutation of memory. The subjectivity of the poem wants to express it in this way.

Throughout the writing process, long and difficult, the poet has had in mind at all times some musical compositions that have accompanied her as the verses of the Cantata took shape and structure. They are Handel's Messiah, Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 - the second movement ... - and A. Mozart's requiems - in their exultant vitality - and Gabriel Fauré's serenissimo. But it was, above all, the high spirituality of Igor Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms that determined the inspiration of the poetic text.

This Cantata is dedicated to the memory of Anni Miró y Sabaté and Carmen Pañella y Balcells.
