On March 11, 1911, the great pianist and composer Enric Granados interpreted this work, with the character of an absolute premiere, in the modernist Palau de la Música Catalana de Barcelona.
This ambitious work, originally written for piano, organ and three choirs, with text in Catalan by an unknown author, had great success on the day of its premiere but it was never played again and it was not edited either. The manuscript of El cant de les estrelles was lost for decades and was even thought to have been burned in a fire. Finally, the specialist in Granados and pianist Douglas Riva recovered it and offered its edition to Boileau Editorial de Música. This version made by Pedro Pardo has transformed the organ part into a chamber orchestra.
El Cant de les estrelles was again performed on March 22, 2007, 96 years after its premiere, by Douglas Riva himself at the piano under the direction of Dennis Keene in the Church of the Ascension of New York.
