ALFARAS, Joan

1973

Born in 1973 in a family full of musicians, his maternal grandparents Josep Calvo (violin) and Núria Turull (piano) represented a big influence and with their teaching skills led him into the fully musical dedication. His career culminated in the Conservatoire of Liceu thanks to the Cuban violinist Evelio Tieles and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama from London, where he perfectionated the instrument with the violinist Detlef Hahn.

Parallel to the violin studies, the fascination for the modern music, specially jazz, made him to approach to the piano from the perspective of experimentation, creativity and improvisation above all.

The experience of playing in different jazz bands gave him the confidence to keep up with the learning in different schools, workshops and specially from the professor Michael Omer in the Guidhall School.

His main activities currently are the composition and the musical production as the author of music for short films, visuals, advertising and theatre like the plays and pieces for violin, piano and string orchestra.

He is currently working as a violin professor and orchestra in the School of Music of Girona and dedicates a part of its time to the creation of new pedagogic methods as the Stradivari method for violin, viola and violoncello and Scherzando for piano (Boileau Publishing House)
