When writing this sonata for the violin or flute and guitar I attempted to use a constantly «concertante» language, in which the guitar expresses itself harmoniously and melodically without falling into the reiterative designs «of accompaniment» with which it has often participated in chamber music.
The guitarist who studies this piece in depth will find a composition with varied formulations which prevail over complement the discourse of the melodic instrument and which, at the same time, blend them both which into a constituent and essential element.
With this work I would like to join the many tributes which are being paid to Fr. Schubert on the event of the second centenary of his birth. With that in mind. I have used a brief motif taken from one his best-known songs, Du bist die Ruh, as a melodic introductory element for the violin or flute.
For the revision of the violin or flute parts I have had the assistance of two extraordinary instrumentalists to whom I would like to express my sincere gratitude: Núria Tauler (flute) and Jose M. Alpiste (violin).
