In the 20th century the development of the clarinet was exceptional and the instrument's repertoire and its technical possibilities increased dramatically. And as was the case throughout history, many works also emerged from the performir-composer dialogue.
Pasacaglia von Weber, a work by the Aragonese Juan A. Medina, touches on the field of variation - a genre already frequented by the composer, as in the case of the Variations on a sonata by D. Scarlatti - with a development of ideas that provides possibilities of technical and musical expression for the clarinet, the main instrument. The references are to be found in Weber's Grand duo concertante, and he elaborates a play of dialogues and tensions with a middle section of rhythmic character and an expressive finale.
