The two works in this volume are part of the series Stradivari Virtuoso for violin and piano. The pieces in the collection are all highly descriptive, use tonal harmonies and show clear influences of many different types of music such as jazz, Celtic, Latin, ethnic and traditional music.
I have attempted to make the piano and violin equal partners so that the works would not be simply an accompanied melody. The collection is intended for concert and recital repertoire. These two works are a continuation of the four volumes the Stradivari series which are intended as pedagogical works.
Although I have recorded the piano part in order to orient students in the performance of the works, nevertheless, each interpreter should find their own new point of view and create their own personal version.
Parisienne [Parisian] is a work in two movements inspired by the people and life of Paris. The sonority of the music evokes a young boy dressed in short pants and wearing a cap with a loaf of bread under his arm while running through a small market place with stalls filled with captivating aromas. A carrousel is playing a little waltz in the distance.
Aires de La Habana [Songs of Havana] is intended to be a homage to the immense musical world of the Cuban people and its important heritage. Latin rhythms have always been a source of inspiration for me and it has been a great challenge to convey their energy and vitality in a work for violin and piano.
