Last February I finished a score entitled Les càrregues. It is a symphonic work inspired by the events that took place on October 1, 2017. Specifically in the charges by the Spanish police.
The creation of this work obeys an imperative need: to explain my indignation for what I lived that day. The score wants to be a living musical testimony and captured with all the realism that has been possible for me. I have made a selection of images, those that have impressed me the most, and I have intertwined them according to my perception to obtain a logical and understandable musical discourse.
The symphonic poem of Les càrregues is structured in three large sections and has two main themes. Finding the themes was instinctive: a theme for us endearing and a theme representing evil. "A por ellos..." was certainly the most appropriate, since the sad story begins with the euphoric shouts with which the policemen were sent away from the place from which they left. The three parts of the play are connected, there is no pause.
It begins with a soft "Nocturne" where the clarinet sings the theme of El testament d'Amèlia. Meanwhile, the strings play in pianissimo. Shortly after the singing comes from the flutes, the music begins to unfold an atmosphere of mystery: something must happen. A tremolo of the string warns that something will happen. It was only a warning that the second theme "A por ellos..." will appear, which is presented with a false tranquility and then becomes a fateful motif. Although it is night and it rains moderately. I use a bell that repeats the note E five times. It is five o'clock in the morning. Everything is still, the feeling is pleasant. The string section brings this first part to a close with a long A.
The second part follows, which is the most violent. It is a furious Allegro in which I brazenly introduce the theme "A por ellos...". Then the instrumentation is full of contrasts and the instruments alternate with each other. It is the moment of the police charge. There is great discomfort, but it will diminish until it becomes calm. We then enter the last section.
A cadential section takes us to the final part. The melody of El testament d'Amèlia appears with all its beauty in a sad, very sad song, which gradually rises to the high register, wishing to disappear in a climate of peace.
